INQUEST INTO DEATH OF DHARA KIVLEHAN OPENS IN LEITRIM
The husband of an Indian woman who died in Belfast’s Victoria Hospital four days after giving birth at Sligo General Hospital in 2010 says he and his son need answers regarding the circumstances of her death.
35-year-old Michael Kivlehan from Dromahair was speaking at the inquest in Leitrim into his wife Dhara Kivlehan’s death.
29-year-old Dhara – originally from India but living in Dromahair – died on September 24th 2010, at Belfast’s Victoria Hospital, after giving birth four days earlier in Sligo General Hospital.
She died from multi-organ failure after suffering severe pre-eclampsia.
The inquest into her death is underway at Carrick-on-Shannon County Leitrim.
Shannonside reporter, Denise Canavan, says the inquest will hear from 14 different witnesses.
“An extended preliminary application in relation to those witnesses in advance – but that was heard without the presence of the jury so it’s not something we can report on as it stands” she said.
“The lost that has been supplied has 14 different witnesses – some from the Belfast hospital, some from the Sligo hospital”.
“In addition, the pathologist from Belfast is also due to appear” she added.
