2.4 MILLION EURO WORTH OF CIGARETTES SEIZED AT ROSSLARE EUROPORT
An investigation is continuing after cigarettes with a retail value of 2.4 million euro were seized at Rosslare Europort.
On Thursday officers from Revenue’s Customs Service stopped a truck that had arrived on a ferry from Cherbourg in France.
They discovered five million cigarettes which were concealed in six tanks in the truck which had been described on the ship manifest as thermal storage tanks.
The seizure came as a result of “risk profiling”, according to a statement from Revenue.
A Lithuanian national was interviewed by Revenue officials and investigations are ongoing.
