STRIKE ACTION EXPECTED TO BRING IRISH RAIL SERVICES TO A STANDSTILL
Irish Rail says it expects services between Wexford and Dublin to come to a standstill this weekend, as members of the National Bus and Rail Union and SIPTU engage in strike action.
A 48-hour work stoppage begins on Sunday acorss the country, prompted by a row between management and unions over Labour Court-backed pay cuts.
Irish Rail says it won’t close the door on talks with unions – which are threatening to hold two further 24-hour stoppages on the days of both All Ireland finals next month.
Spokesperson for Irish Rail Barry Kenny says they don’t expect any services to run throughout the strikes.
“Our expectation unfortunately is that across the five days of the action, should they all proceed, that we wouldn’t be in a position to operate any trains – and that’s covering DART, InterCity and freight services” he said.
“For our customers obviously that’s something we obviously very much regret, that this disruption is upon them and imminent in the case of the two days” he added.
