IRISHWOMAN CHARGED WITH HIDING BODY OF HER BABY IN AUSTRALIA
A 25-year-old Irishwoman has been charged in Australia with hiding the body of her newborn baby.
The woman – who was backpacking with friends in the Kimberley region – reportedly did not realise she was pregnant.
It is alleged she gave birth in the town of Halls Creek in May, and only told her friends what happened days later.
Erin Parke is a reporter with ABC News in Western Australia.
She says the woman will be back in court in October.
“She’s so far not entered a plea and it will be back before the Perth Magistrates Court in October” she said.
“There’s a sizable ex-pat community there, so I think they’re obviously hopefully be more supports there for her”.
“We’ll just have to wait and see what the outcome is, and if the court perhaps does decide to dismiss the charges or whether she actually ends up with a jail term” she added.
