IRISH RAIL WORKERS TO STRIKE NEXT MONTH
Irish Rail passengers are likely to face disruption next month.
SIPTU has confirmed its 1,800 workers at the company are to walk off the job on Monday August 25th.
It comes after the company decided to implement Labour Court recommended cost saving measures, including temporary pay cuts.
Irish Rail’s Barry Kenny says their financial situation is ‘grave’ and the cuts are essential.
“We’re introducing pay measures which are temporary in nature, and we’ve attempted to minimise the impact on colleagues – because our financial situation is so grave that it (is) essential if the company is to survive in its current form, and to protect the employment of our workforce” he said.
