WEXFORD WOMAN NOT GUILTY OF MURDER BY REASON OF INSANITY TO REMAIN IN TREATMENT
A County Wexford woman who was found not guilty by reason of insanity of killing her partner ‘remains psychotic and should remain in treatment’ a court has been told.
Caroline Roche from Ballyedmond in Monamolin in Gorey was arrested following the death of 84 year old Walter Plunkett at their home on August 19th 2012.
He was found suffocated in their garden.
A report was read to court today detailing the treatment and progress of the 52 year old.
Consultant forensic psychiatrist at the Central Medical Hospital in Dundrum, Dr Paul O’ Connell confirmed that stress caused by the trial had caused short destabilisation but that Miss Roche’s mental state has improved.
He said she remained psychotic and should remain in treatment.
But Dr O’Connell said she has been fully co operative and there is evidence of increasing improvement in her mental state.
Mr Justice Barry White made an order that she be committed to Dundrum Hospital.
