HOMICIDES DOWN BUT KIDNAPPINGS UP IN WEXFORD GARDA DIVISION
In general there’s been a fall in crime rates in the Wexford Garda Division when the first 3 months of 2014 are compared with the same period last year.
It follows the publication of the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office.
Homicides have risen by 23 per cent nationally, with the biggest rise being murders – up from 44 to 60 deaths in the twelve month period.
However in Wexford they’ve decreased.
Last year there were 2 homicides in the Wexford Garda Division in quarter 1 of 2013 but there hasn’t been a similar case so far this year.
Kidnappings rose by 6 per cent across the country, and theft was up by 2 per cent.
In County Wexford kidnappings also showed an increase.
Last year there were none in the first part of 2013 – with 2 so far for the same period this year.
However thefts have seen a decrease in the Wexford Garda Division – from 399 last year to 366 for quarter 1 of 2014.
