STRIKE UNDERWAY BY AER LINGUS STAFF
A 24 hour strike by Aer Lingus cabin crew is underway at Dublin, Cork and Shannon Airports.
The strike, which began at midnight, has come about as a result of an ongoing row over rosters.
On the Friday of a bank holiday weekend Aer Lingus would normally carry around 40,000 passengers.
Most of today’s Aer Lingus flights have been cancelled – but extra flights have been scheduled for Saturday, and its estimated this dispute could cost their airline up to 10 million euro.
Pickets have been placed on Cork, Dublin, and Shannon Airports since midnight.
The 1200 cabin crew represented by IMPACT will march through Dublin Airport to Aer Lingus headquarters this morning, to hand in a letter to management explaining their problem with the rostering system.
Members of the pilots union IALPA are expected to march in solidarity with their colleagues.
IMPACT has accepted an invitation from Aer Lingus to talks, but a date hasn’t yet been set.
