AER LINGUS SAYS UP TO 40,000 TO BE AFFECTED BY STRIKE
Aer Lingus says a planned strike by staff on Friday week will disrupt the travel plans of up to 40,000 customers.
The airline says it will have to cancel 204 flights as a result of the industrial action by cabin crew.
The trade union IMPACT claims the strike – which is scheduled to take place on the Friday of the June Bank Holiday weekend – has been called because of unworkable rosters which are being imposed on staff.
The company is proposing setting up an internal panel to resolve disputes at the airline – and it’s calling on IMPACT to engage with this process.
Declan Kearney is Director of Communications with Aer Lingus – he says the strike will cost the company millions of euro in lost revenue:
“Currently we have 28,000 people who are booked on those flights and those flights now look like they will need to be cancelled. In addition to that, there is probably an additional 10,000 so there is about 40,000 people in total who were due to be travelling on that day who will now not be able to travel.”
