INCREASE IN SUICIDES IN THE SOUTH EAST AFTER NEW PLAN IS IMPLEMENTED
The Psychiatric Nurses Association has expressed concern over the way the “Vision For Change” is being implemented, after an increase in the rate of suicides among people in the southeast.
14 people – who were under the care of the HSE – took their own lives over an 18 month period, in the Carlow / Kilkenny / South Tipperary area.
Nurses are worried it could be related to the Vision for Change, under which patients are mainly cared for in the community.
General Secretary of the PNA, Des Kavanagh, says patients are being discharged too early into the community due to a lack of beds – and there are not enough staff in the community.
