E-cigarettes To Be Banned In All Hse Facilities

E-CIGARETTES TO BE BANNED IN ALL HSE FACILITIES

The use and sale of e-cigarettes is to be banned in all Health Service Executive (HSE) facilities.

The ban will be imposed from the beginning of next month in HSE buildings and sites around the country.

The HSE says there is currently no evidence that e-cigarettes are safe for long-term use, or are effective as a smoking cessation aid.

John Mallon – a spokesperson for smokers group Forest Eireann – is critical of the decision.

“They’re flying in the face of their own stated aim to help smokers to quit – this isn’t helping them” he said.

“I think e-cigarettes are a wonderful device, they introduce more choice to the market place”.

“There are over 14 studies done world-wide that are showing a massive drop – in the UK alone, a 16 percent year-on-year – from the use of e-cigarettes” he added.
