GOREY RESIDENT TO MEET THE GOVERNMENT OVER MOTOR NEURONE CARE
An individual does not have the right to end their life but the state can make that decision if they see fit for financial reasons.
That’s according to Wexford Indepdendent TD Mick Wallace after Gorey resident Eimear Lynch-Rowe – who has Motor Neurone Disease – was told she can not have invasive ventilation at home when the time comes.
The 47 year-old is currently using non-invasive ventilation to help her lungs to function properly but the HSE has told her that due to costs she will be unable to be placed on a permanent ventilator at home when her condition deteriorates.
The TD highlighted a recent judgement whereby a woman who had MS was not allowed to end her life but he says the state in this case can allow Eimear to live but because of costs they’re not allowing her that option.
Ms Lynch-Rowe is expected to meet with the Junior Health Minister Alex White.
