The head of the ASTI Ed Byrne says the Government’s threat to cut teachers’ salaries is ‘heavy handed’.
The union has been warned wages will be docked if they don’t supervise pupils.
The Department of Education claims they should be spending around 43 hours a year covering for staff who’re ill or busy elsewhere – and are willing to deduct around 25-hundred Euro in compensation.
ASTI President Ed Byrne has criticised the suggestion but remains open to negotiation.
