BRUTON HITS OUT AT CHURCH OVER ABUSE REDRESS PAYMENTS

The Education Minister has accused the church of shirking its ‘moral responsibility’ when it comes to compensating abuse survivors.

Richard Bruton says none of the religious orders in this country have paid enough.

A redress scheme for survivors was supposed to see the Church and State split costs 50-50, but it’s emerged that nuns and priests have paid only 13 per cent so far.

The total price of compensation is 1-point-5 billion Euro and Minister Bruton says religious orders are to blame.
