5 VACANT COUNCIL HOUSES IN COUNTY WEXFORD TO BE REFURBISHED

Funding has been made available for 5 boarded up council houses in County Wexford to be refurbished.

A fund of 15 million euro has been put in place nationally to pay for the work.

More than 1,000 boarded up council houses around the country are to be refurbished under a new programme signed off by government today – 5 of which will be in County Wexford.

150,000 euro has been awarded for the county, with each unit expected to cost around 30-thousand euro.

Under the plan it’s hoped many of the new houses will be available to new tenants in the coming months.

It follows funding announced in April to bring 953 homes nationwide back into use with work already underway.

This latest 15 million euro in funding is part of 50 million euro for social housing made available by the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Wexford’s Brendan Howlin in May.

The Housing Minister Jan O’Sullivan says the programme of works is positive for local communities as it removes an eyesore and a space that can often become a focal point for anti-social behaviour.
