10 AREAS IN CO. WEXFORD AT SERIOUS RISK OF FLOODING

Ten areas in County Wexford are at serious risk of flooding according to the OPW.

The areas are highlighted under the National Catchment Flood Risk Assessment and Management Programme.

The list of areas in County Wexford at serious risk of flooding is spread across the county and include Blackwater, Bunclody, Courtown, Enniscorthy, Gorey, Kilmore, New Ross, the North and South Slobs and Wexford town.

People living in these areas will have an opportunity from the first of October to voice their views on the matter as they will be subject to public consultation.

This will lead to the finalising of the National Flood Relief Plan which is required under an EU Directive on flood management.

The government is urging the people who may be effected by flooding to make sure they make use of the public consultation process.

Minister with responsibility for the OPW Simon Harris says the flood defence works needed across the country is huge and he is making a serious case to government for the necessary funding to be put in place.
